Goal Setting

Many people feel as if they’re adrift in the world. They work hard, but they don’t seem to get anywhere worthwhile.

A key reason that they feel this way is that they haven’t spent enough time thinking about what they want from Life, and haven’t set themselves formal goals. After all, would you set out on a major journey with no real idea of your destination? Probably not!

Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality.

The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. You’ll also quickly spot the distractions that can, so easily, lead you astray.

Why Set Goals?

Goal setting is used by top-level athletes, successful business-people and achievers in all fields. Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation. It focuses your acquisition of knowledge, and helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life.

By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals, and you’ll see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. You will also raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your own ability and competence in achieving the goals that you’ve set.

One easy goal to set for yourself and to raise your self-confidence is a number of cd’s that you are going to listen to, and a time limit that you are going to read each day. By doing this simple task each day and accomplishing the goal that is not dependant on what others do, you will raise your self-esteem by hitting the goal you set out for yourself each day.

As you set goal for you personal development you will also want to set goals for your business. In our business there are three indicators of how well the business is growing. Those indicators are 1)depth in an organization (meaning how many people are joining a organization on a monthly basis in-depth) 2)system (how many people are getting the information it takes to build a business) 3)tickets to seminars (how well is the organization leveraging the seminar and power of association). Each month Dolores and I set goals to keep ourselves motivated and on track to increase these three indicators and it also creates an urgency to hit larger goals we have set.

If your just starting your journey of setting goals for your life don’t just set goals in one area of your life. I did this in my plumbing business years ago and without goals set for my family, my family got way out of balance. We look at a well-balanced life is made up of eight areas 1) Faith 2) Family 3) Finances 4) Fitness 5) Friends 6) Following 7) Freedom 8) Fun. As you set goals you may get out of balance in one or two of these areas short-term, but looking at the long-term when you hit your goals your life will be balanced.

Life is too short to let things happen to you, winners make things happen! When you create an environment of goal setting and being accountable to someone like a mentor you will be exhilarated!!!

God Bless,

Jim Martin

Great post Jim. I tell you what, we have been around for a while in this industry with you and there have been times that I just feel like if I keep doing the “work” aka “showing plans and building my business” it will all just work out. That is true to a certain point, but the small piece of the puzzle that I would miss is to consistantly be working on myself as well.

    When you said:

That is so true. The times that I didn’t keep track or set goals for my personal development, my business never really grew to the potential that it could. Goals should be for every area of our lives!!

I know with the Mental Fitness Challenge LIFE is launching this weekend we all will be able to set, track, and improve our personal development goals.

    Thanks for sharing Jim!!

Jim, we agree with you on setting goals and writing them on paper. We need to remember that time will not stand still for you to achieve your
goal(s) and the comment that we usually say when we accomplish what we set out to do is, “wow, I did it,” regardless of how long it took. The journey is short and we need to travel the path well in being a role model for others to gain hope for themselves. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We are proud to be a part of the Liberators and having a Leader with a loving heart.

Great post! The power of goal setting, in any area of life in which you want to improve, is so underestimated and understated!

    Hey Jim and Dolores,
Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge. I aspire to grow in my goal setting. I know it is an important part of my life and business future.
I know if I keep coming around the camp fire, listening to cd’s, and reading, I can only improve in all areas. Thanks again for your continued inspiration

After reading this, it sounds crazy, but so many people including myself never set goals and wonder why their life isn’t getting any better.
